Web designers often want to make a backup file if they are going to change one. Making a backup is much easier, relatively speaking, if WB would get the option of Save Copy As...
To avoid too many buttons on the Toolbar, all saving options could be put in a submenu under the button Save. Clicking that button would then just save the file, and clicking the little arrow next to it would open the submenu with all the saving options.
Save Copy As...

Re: Save Copy As...
Why not using STRG+SHIFT+S (Save as)?
I think that's pretty much the functionality you want...

Re: Save Copy As...
Nope, that is not the same, because that way you first have to open filename.ext, save it as filename-backup.ext which name it then assumes, and save that again as filename.ext. With Save Copy As..., you can just save it as filename-backup.ext and continue working on filename.ext. Save Copy As... also prevents mistakingly working on the backup file.x3po wrote:Why not using STRG+SHIFT+S (Save as)?

Re: Save Copy As...
I agree that would be good as I've been caught out before using save as and forgetting to change files.
One way that doesn't really address the issue but could possibly work is to use the auto-save feature in options and set it up to have your own backup named files which you can then use at will, however this involves a lot of mucking around compared to your idea.
Cheers

The built-in Auto Backups indeed doesn't do the job, because:davenz wrote:One way that doesn't really address the issue but could possibly work is to use the auto-save feature in options and set it up to have your own backup named files which you can then use at will, however this involves a lot of mucking around compared to your idea.
a) .bak files don't render in the preview pane, and I sometimes want to see if the backup file did render correctly,
b) the extension given is not customizable, and
c) very importantly, WB only makes the backup file when the user closes the file. The Option window says 'Create file backups on save', but it doesn't do that when ticked. It only creates a backup when the file is closed. That makes all the difference, because in difficult matters I sometimes make three or four backup files (backup-1, backup-2, etc.) while editing, much like the history in Photoshop, so I can revert back to several past states.
Re: Save Copy As...
Point taken, not a very good idea then so retract or ignore that last post please.
Quite a bad feature too if it doesn't work on save; perhaps it is a bug?
