Problems with autocomplete and quotes

Post by ddoesburg »

I'm using WeBuilder v11.1.0.128 / Windows 7

As long as I have WeBuilder I've the following problem:
If I need to use a (single or double) quote I always get 1 to much.

My keyboard has "dead-keys". That means that I can use some keys as accents and so. So a ' (single quote) and an "a", or an "e" etc. I get á, é etc.
That way I 'm usual using for a normal quoted word 2x the quote, than an arrow left, the word, and at last arrow right and a space
That works well in my normal all day life.

In WeBuilder I can't find a good way.
It always gives a qoute to much.
Example:
The strokes < d i v (space) i d = " #
gives: <div id=""#"

This goes for double and single quotes.

How can I avoid one of the two quotes before the word (# in this example)?

I wonder.

Here in Latvia we use apostrophe (‘) dead key to type characters that are specific to Latvian language (ā, ē, č, ļ, ķ etc.). So when I need to type apostrophe itself I type apostrophe + space. But I suppose this is specific and can vary from keyboard layout to layout.

What keyboard layout do you use? Maybe I can install and test it.

Hi Nikolajs,

Thanks for your answer. Normaly I do the same to get an apostrphe.
But for some reason I get one extra. In a restaurant I like it, but on my screen I hate it :-)

I've the Dutch language and the USA keyboard lay-out.

Yes, you are right. Actually I got the same behavior with the Latvian keyboard layout if a single quote is used (which in the dead key). A solution would be to turn off automatic quote closing.

Go to: Options > Preferences > Text Editor > Auto Complete
Unckeck: “Auto close single quotes” and “Auto close double quotes”

Hi Daniel. I also had that problem, but it's not the program's fault. When you have your keyboard set in a language like Spanish or other European languages, the system puts the quote on hold after you press the key the first time. This quote will be shown on the screen next time you press a key. So, with this kind of configuration, you have a double system generating quotes automatically. The only way to work with any program using this kind of configurations, is to set the program to generate one quote at a time (as someone explained before). This way you will only have one of the systems in charge of the quotes (in this case, the keyboard).

I think this happens because the configuration for other languages different than English were made considering normal use, not for programmers. The best configuration for a programmer is the English configuration. In that setup, the automatic generation of quotes by Webuilder applies perfectly.

If you have Windows 7, you can set the language of the keyboard for every program individually. When I work with Webuilder my keyboard is set in English, and when I open the email, the configuration change to my native language.
