How do I remove the VERTICAL GRAY LINE in the html editor in htmlpad2011 latest version. what is it for anyway?

I suppose that it is the right margin line you are talking about. To turn off the right margin go to Options > Preferences > View and uncheck “Show right margin” checkbox.
The right margin is used to help keep all lines of your code to be not longer than specified.
