Rapid PHP 2010 10.2.0.121 Hangs / Long loop

Post by russellweed »

The latest version of Rapid PHP keeps freezing on me. I suspect the problem is in the File Explorer (Project View), because it always happens when I explore certain directories. Whenever I open a particular folder, everything is fine until I scroll down to about halfway down the folder. When I get to the files starting with F Rapid PHP hangs.

1) It's a large subdirectory, with 132 files and 9 subdirectories.
2) It's a network share (SMB share from a linux box), not a local drive.

If I let Rapid PHP sit there for 3 to 5 minutes, about 50% of the time it will finally finish whatever it's trying to do and unfreeze.

No other program besides Rapid PHP has a problem refreshing the file list on this drive, so I think the problem is not on the shared drive side of things.

Hi,

I am not sure we will be able to do something about this, unless we can reproduce the problem.
It seems quite specific, and we have not received similar problem reports lately.
I will ask also Karlis to take a look at this issue.

Kind regards,
Gatis

I am using 11.1, and this problem happens to be daily as well. It always occurs accessing the local file system (mostly save or delete) in the Projects explorer.

FYI, I was evaluating Rapid PHP 2011 v11.2.1.130 and this still happens. :/

I've seen several reports mentioned with WeBuilder regarding explorer hanging/browsing problems and I'm guessing WeBuilder and RapidPHP use the same core code. The later versions of the software likely use the same code as well so theoretically there won't be any difference between versions.

To my untrained troubleshooting ear it sounds as if network shared drives are the likely cause of the problems, especially with deep sub-folders and lots of files. It shouldn't be that difficult to set up a test rig to mimic this behaviour.

You don't say what OS you are using either, is it Windows 7 64 bit?

Most of the glitches seem to be with 64 bit versions of Windows. Not sure what that means or what can be done about it.

+1 here with Windows 7 64bit... Just wanted to reproduce the bug and got the error box (continue, etc). Version 11.2.2.131.
Fool me, couldn't grab the error. And the next time it didn't happen. In my case I am setting the application not to open recent files, it shows the project manager on the right as default (see that the separator bar between the project folders and project files is too big everytime I open the program, a minor annoyance). I'll try to capture more information for debugging..
