I have htmlpad 2011 (version 11.4.0.133) and a page with html5 tags such as header, canvas and nav tags but when I use the html check tool or clean tool I get error/warning messages telling me these tags are not recognised ... why is that? surely that cant be right?
any ideas?

Version 2011 does not include full HTML5 support (it has old HTML Tidy because at the time of development, it was all we had). The upcoming version 2014 should solve this completely. Free beta is available right now.
