Opening selected files

Post by dave »

Hi,

Using WeBuilder 2014. Is there any way in which I can open groups of tabs when switching between different projects?

An example may help. I am working on Project 1 for a client, and have say 5 tabs open from that project. I make some changes, save the work (which is uploaded to my clients server), close all the files before opening a different project in order to continue some other work. I then get a call from my client to say that he has found a bug. The bug is almost certainly within the files that I had previously opened, and so I need to close files from project 2, and re-open the files from project 1. As the files in project 1 are spread throughout multiple sub-directories, this can take time. It would be nice with a single command to return to editing the same files from project 1.

Can this be done, or is this a new feature request? and if so can it be done?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

Not sure if you can save a history or state of open files that is per the project, but you can save a list of open files from the "Tools > Save a list of open files" menu before you close all the files and switch projects, if you do this for every project you can then reload the list that goes with the project when you choose the "Tools > Load a list of files" menu item. Also you can make and date different versions of the list you keep per project or otherwise just save over the list to keep the most recent list of open files for the day.

Now if I can just get the guys to make Webuilder reload the open files from the FTP server, then where talkin.

Thanks

Hi t8xt,

Thanks for the reply.

I did search the help file, but did not find this answer.

This is the sort of functionality that I was after, it's a little clunky, i.e. would have been nice if the list was stored quietly away against the project. It would also be nice if WeBuilder recognised the dot extension of .flist (having created it) from the explorer menu and reloaded the files in the same way that it does from the tools menu. That said, it basically does what I was after, although I don't know why the developers couldn't have pointed me in this direction?

Dave, I missed your post. I'll add to suggestions that .flist handling and documentation should be improved.
