ghost task in WinXP

Post by MoeBass »

I noticed something lately when I use alt-tab to taskswitch between WeBuilder and other apps I have running: There's a second WeBuilder icon in the list of tasks!!
I got a screenshot of it: Image
any idea what this could possibly be?
Thanks!

if, no matter where you go, nothing seems to change, maybe it's time to look at what you're bringing with you.

There was another thread on this a while back: http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic. ... ght=alttab

It seems that this is a problem that happens only with the WinXP TaskSwitch Powertoy.

I use a similar Alt-Tab tool that does not have this problem. You may want to take a look at it: http://www.ntwind.com/taskswitchxp/

It's open source so it's free (and can be fixed if such a problem arises).

Offtopic: I'm wondering if these tools are very much better than Alt+Tab? They are getting popular, I have never tried one though.

Should I ? :)

that's up to you.
I tried the MS Powertoy out of curiousity and I found it to be worthwhile keeping around (ie, i didn't grimmance and push 'uninstall' after the first minute of use)
TETO (to each their own)

Personally, I find it to be a bit more than just eye-candy. I often run with many, many windows open (especially IE), and I find that I can zero in on the window I want a bit better with the thumbnail and description that the enhanced Task Switchers provide.

The biggest drawback I've heard of, especially with the Powertoy, is that it's too slow. I have not found that to be the case for me with TaskSwitchXP Pro.

I guess, I'll have to miss this fun for now, but will look into it if the classic Alt+Tab won't keep up with my needs. :)
