What I do...
I only use the built in ftp feature when I'm editing an already existing file and I'm only changing some style or other. When I create a new file, I have to use a dedicated ftp program to send the images anyway, so I do the html files at the same time.
How complicated would it be to introduce a feature like (cough!) Dreamweaver has - when uploaded an html/php file, it gives you the choice to upload all 'dependent' files such as images/stylesheets etc.? If that could be inroduced, I believe HTMLPad would become a true 'killer' app for us web designers.
Keep up the excellent work.

It is a tradition to make major improvements to FTP features with each major version, so we are currently collecting all ideas about improving FTP features. So your ideas are the most welcome!
Yes, and I wish I could do more with it...
Yes, I use the built-in FTP features, and in fact wished it had fuller FTP features, such as the ability to send image files or whole directories at once.
For my situation, working in a school, I would like to be able to use the built-in features of HTMLPad FTP rather than providing a separate FTP client for the students.

I think its very hard to even FIND the FTP-Tool in HTMLPad. And i think you should make a new Sidebar (like Inspector, Library etc) for Site Projects from wich Users can upload directly to a specified Server (It gets boring to always select the server). I mean, like in Homesite, fixed FTP-Servers for every Site Project.
Also, i like the idea to have one Button that tells HTMLPad to upload the File or all Files i have open to a specified Folder on the Server.

The site management feature in FrontPage (I'm using 2003) is very good. By default, it compares the site on your local system to the remote hosted site and uploads any newer files. If a local file is deleted, it asks if the remote file should be deleted as well (sounds stupid, but it's a good safety net).
The site view shows side-by-side file lists for the local site and the remote site. Files can be dragged and dropped (a copy operation) from either one to the other. This proved very valuable when I accidentally mangled a local file
but I recovered by dragging the remote file back to my local system.
In all this, there is no mention of FTP. The process of accessing the remote Web site is either automatic or no more difficult than dragging files from one window to another. The less complicated this is, the more the average user will appreciate it.
One might wonder why I have an interest in HTMLPad if I'm already using FrontPage. The answer is that I have very small clients with very small budgets who want to participate in the development of their own Web site. I'm looking for free or inexpensive tools for them (and I'd use them, too). I'm very interested in Nvu, but HTMLPad is a better tool overall. Better, that is, once it handles site management better.

I use RapidPHP's built in FTP
There are three enhancements that I feel are necassary.
1) Ability to specifiy PASV connection (or auto detection)
When working on my local network e.g. 192.168.xxx.xxx I can connect just fine but when I try to connect via the internet the connection takes forever to establish or I do not get a connection at all. My FTP logs show the initial connection but then your FTP component drops it.
2) A dockable FTP folder/file view that keeps current connection open for easy access to files/folders and to view current directory structure.
3) SFTP would be great!

I think adding a dropdown list to the save button like the open button has would be a good option. It could keep the last X folder locations you've opened or saved from, the same way the open button keeps previously opened files. In this case you'd omit the file name however, and when you click the folder listed a dialog asks for a name for the file. The current name would be the default. I agree that having to open a remote site and browse to the same folder I've been working in already can be annoying.
Another thing I noticed which is of concern is how the ftp site settings are saved in the registry. It's a minor point I guess, but being on a multi-user system where others might have registry access concerns me when it seems the username and password are stored in a plain text format. At the least it would be nice to leave both blank but save the host name, and be prompted for the rest on connection.
Thanks for the great application!

ftp features
I coded my first page in htmlpad, back in 1997. suggestion from pagetutor.com. anyhow...
I like the built in ftp feature. However, without the ability to add all related files (pics etc) we still need to go to another ftp program.
I was a bit confused at first, because my page showed up fine in the "preview" panel (which is awesome, btw) but broken all to h3ll on the server.
Then i couldn't find the answer to my question on uploading other files in help, or the sites FAQ. It wasn't till i read all the message subjects that I saw this thread... exactly what I needed.
So, please implement full ftp support. I'll purchase the program then. For now I'll keep learning htmlkit.
thanks

I'm familiar to WS_FTP Pro
I've used WS_FTP Pro for such a long time, and I like it so much that I've never tried out any integrated FTP functionality, although that could be easier and quicker. I'll try it, I promise!
ON ERROR GOTO BED
A very simple request to FTP, Please...
I know to add FTP features takes time. It will be good to have full FTP features but I don't think that is an issue, neither it is a problem by using another FTP program. I think you already have done a very good job for the editor!!! It is the best! I hope you to continue to focus on the core features.... I hate to see programs getting very BIG...
I use built in FTP a lot and it is very useful to edit simple file or changes while I am developing (I think it was your purpose to add the simple FTP). I only miss one thing: FTP directory path or tree indicator!!!! Because when I reconnect again, I am lost... cause it only shows "parent directory" folder.... so I have to go up to the parent directory again to spot where I am.... if you know what I mean.
If you can just PLEASE add this feature, it will be very appreciated!!!
Anyways, I love HTML Pro and Rapid PHP because it is the best!!!
Keep up the good work!
