Warning When Opening Read-Only Files

Post by kfury77 »

I used to use Macromedia NightmareWeaver :-) and it had a useful feature; if you try and open a read-only document it first warns you that the file is read-only and gives you the option of making the file writeable.

I would really like to see this feature added to WeBuilder.

Since I open a lot of files just for examination, not to edit, I'd prefer a slight variation on this: open the read-only file with no notification, but when an attempt is made to modify the file, pop-up the warning and give the option to remove the read-only attribute.

Does anyone really use read-only files? As far as I can see the problems could arise only on save, but never on open.

if I'm doing a manual build out of a site, I usually make the template read only because I'm always screwing things up. That said, I wouldn't really use this feature becuase I made it read-only on purpose. "Save a copy" however....

Files that are not checked out from version control are read-only, so I occasionally run into this (I know - I shouldn't be changing files unless they are checked out).

This is not a big deal for me, but since it was brought up I decided to add my 2 cents.
