Question - Vertical line in code editor ?

Post by neelix05 »

What is that gray vertical line down the middle of the screen in code editor for? Can it be removed? What is it's purpose?

Thx

It's the right margin indicator.

Go to Options/Preferences.../Text Editor/View and uncheck the "Show right margin" box.

The purpose is to see how far in the code you are.

Ahh, so it's basically a visual reference line.

Thanks for the explanations :D

it was, once a long time ago, that you were to keep your code to less than 80 characters per line because that's as far as screens could go and there were no 'scroll bars'. so as a matter of form, you kept your code from going past line 80. it's kinda useless these days but most editors still indicate the position, just in case.

vertical line

Shouldn't the vertical line indicate where you set your right margin?
and exactly where the "word wrap" - if clicked - occurs? Would make
more sense than having the "current right edge of the work area"
being the place where word wraps. I keep missing barely hidden
<'s hiding at the right-side of the page "under the scrollbar."

Cheers,
