LINUX and / or MAC OSX support
Hey.
I personally think that Rapid PHP would be awesome on Linux and frankly is one of the only reasons why I still use windows.
What are other peoples thoughts on this?
Should we ask nicely if they will port it to linux (maybe even MAC)?

We have one chance to be the best we can be, to share what we have and to give what we can. What comes after that is up to you.
If we ever see a decent version of Kylix, it might *possibly* be able to be converted. I understand the SynEdit source control works on multiple platforms.Unfortunately it was built and designed for Windows, and it is not possible to port this application to other platform.
I personally think it would be more work than it's worth. However, WINE does a real good job properly emulating Delphi programs (which I'm more than positive is what Rapid PHP is written with.)
At first glance it looked like the SynEdit control, but then after using the editor for a while, I realized you must have majorly customized it or used something else.
I personally think that developing on Windows is a lot easier. Let the server run Linux or whatever you like, but use Windows for development.
Besides, if there was a cross-platform version, all the Linux fan-boys would demand that it be open source and free.

Linux version emulator
Hey.
Does someone know how to emulate Rapid PHP 2006 under linux?
I installed it using WINE but had heaps of problems and could not get any further. Also, the configuration files for Rapid PHP 2006 are stored in the application data directory.
It would be awesome if someone couldget it running either with WINE or crossover office and post a guide.
That would rock. Rapid PHP is the only reason I still have a windows partition.
Cheers

WeBuilder for Linux
Webuilder has got to be the most advanced user-friendly web development tool I have come across, after trialing countless others (Quanta, Bluefish, CoffeeCup, NVu, etc et al).
I have a dual boot system running Windows Xp and SimplyMepis 6.5 Linux
and would move entirely to Linux if Webuilder was available for that platform. I have been trying to get it to run on WINE but as yet no success, will keep you posted when I crack it.
Karlis - Keep up the good work, but please give serious consideration to other OS.

Close your windows, open-source your mind!
I'd love to see Webuilder on my linux work station too. Perhaps Realbasic http://www.realbasic.com/ might offer a solution. Its supposed to compile and run on Windows, OSX, and Linux.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
HyrumR, it doesn't necessarily follow that if someone prefers a another (superior?) operating system that they want everything that goes with it to be free.HyrumR
"Besides, if there was a cross-platform version, all the Linux fan-boys would demand that it be open source and free."
Windows has its advantages as does Linux, the thing that most annoys me about Windows is the lack of security, particularly in protecting MY
computer from Microsofts intrusions, often disguised as updates.
There is a large swing away from the grip of Microsoft, e.g. Firefox now has approximately 30% of the browser market, and it makes good commercial sense to cater for it.
Close your windows, open-source your mind!

Re: WeBuilder for Linux
Hey Goose! Me too! The only reason I still have windows is Webuilder and Eve Online. Though I admit, its a pain trying to get my microphone working in mepis. I've got an audigy value 5.1 and I get sound out of three of the 5 channels and my boom headset (microphone) plugs into the inputs and all the settings seem right.....Other than that Mepis has me!Goose wrote:Webuilder has got to be the most advanced user-friendly web development tool I have come across, after trialing countless others (Quanta, Bluefish, CoffeeCup, NVu, etc et al).

Just a note - I don't suspect you'll add MAC support, but...
I suspect I'll end up getting a MAC (I AM a web developer, after all - that's why I have WeBuilder, and I need a MAC so's I can add another element to cross-browser/cross-system testing).
I need WeBuilder - I'm addicted! So, I'll have to virtualize Windows on the MAC and run WeBuilder there...
Que Viva WeBuilder!
