Library

Post by elwood »

I was going through and cleaning up my computer some, deleting old programs. In the process, I deleted WeBuilder 2005. I didn't realize that doing so would affect WeBuilder 2006. It deleted many of the settings for 2006. Not realizing it would have that affect, I had not backed up my settings and snippets. Although I am not clear why that is the case, it obviously was my fault.

The main thing I do not understand, however, is why the entire library is now gone. I can see the library pane, but there is nothing in it--it is completely empty. Not only are my personal snippets gone, but all the code that had originally come with the program. In the data folder, there are two folders called cssdefs and mldefs. Are they related to the library? Is there anyway to recover the original library snippets that came with the program?

Also, what step did I miss in the installation process that would have avoided this problem. In other words, what should I do when WeBuilder 2007 comes along so that I don't have to keep WeBuilder 2006 forever?

Thank you for your help.

When you installed 2006, it should have detected version 2005 and asked if you wanted to upgrade. If so, it would have prompted you to uninstall 2005 there and then.

The library is stored in library.xml in the c:\documents and settings\your_user\application data\Blumentals\WeBuilder\Settings folder.

If you want my library file, I've zipped it up here:

If you need a program to create 'one-click' backups and even automated backups into standard zip files, to prevent this happening again (;) !!), see my Zip Backup program:

Yes, seems like I do remember it asking me that--not sure why I didn't do it. I will be on the lookout for it next time.

I appreciate the offer of downloading your library, but when I click on the link I only get a blank page. I can't find any reference to a zipped file.

The page with the back up software does work, however.

Thanks for your assistance.

Clicking the link above produces this (on Firefox)

ie, a download window. What browser / OS are you using?

The direct link is
removed

Hopefully that'll work. Methinks you're just blocking that link though.

I am using Avant Browser. For some reason the download dialog was apparently popping up and disappearing so quickly that I couldn't see it. One time it slowed enough for me to see it, but not click on it!

I was, however, able to get to it with IE7. Thanks!
