Hey Karlis et al. I noticed that we are getting spammed in the forums these days, is there anything we can do to stop it?
Oh yeah, I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting any info on Webuilder 2007. Can we get a hint as to maybe some new features?
Usually, I'm not keen on giving ANYONE my hard earned cash, but you've helped me so much with WeBuilder, I can't wait. Please keep it up!
Thanks!
Erik

- Check the Support section of the corresponding product first. Chances are you will find your answer there;
- Do not create new topics for already reported problems. Add your comments to the existing topics instead;
- Create separate topic for each problem request. Do NOT post a number of non-related problem reports in a single topic;
- Give your topic a meaningful title. Titles such as "A question," "Bug report" and "Help!" provide others no clue what your message is about;
- Include the version number of the software you are using;

I did this on my phpBB. It did stop the spammers from posting, but unfortunately the profiles were still visiable in the memberlist, and the website in the profile as a link.JGrubbs wrote:We had to set our PHPBB forums to admin approved registrations. We get 20+ porno registrations a day.
There is a small mod that only shows approved members in the list.
I've also added a better "captcha" routine to hopefully make it that little bit harder for the spammers.
So far so good, and it seems to have worked.

I try and clear the spam best I can, but its a lengthy job!
I've already changed the memberlist routine to only show people that have posted, and it doesn't show ANY URLs.
I'd be interested in the improved CAPTCHA routine - will have to get Karlis to install it though. I've already made modifications to the registration routine to try and prevent 'automatic' registrations.
The best way forward is to create a moderation queue, so a users' posts are held in a queue until approved. As soon as the user is identified as a normal user, their posts bypass this queue.
phpBB3 will have this feature, I understand, but that could be several months away yet. Also, I don't believe it works with php4, so that could cause problems too.
Looks like I'm going to have to dust off my php coding skills...

Currently we have Chris, syrupcore [update] and myself moderating this forum. If anybody else would like to do the moderating job, please let me know.
The requirements for a moderator would be the following:
* Ownership of a licensed copy of our software.
* At least 3 visits to this forum per week and active involvement in helping others by posting replies and suggestions.
* Positive attitude.
* Registered user status for at least 3 months.
If you qualify and are interested, please let me know, the best way would be to PM or write me an e-mail to software[at]latnet.lv
I admit I am guilty in not visiting the forum more often than once per week. Currently I am in a situation where the amount of job to be done (programming, providing support, doing marketing, maintaining business) exceed my capabilities. I shall be doing whatever it takes to improve the situation, but it could take some time.
