WeBuilder: File Explorer - sorting files by File Type

Post by garethjmsaunders »

This is a feature request for WeBuilder. I have WeBuilder 2006 version 7.2.

In File Explorer (either in Project, Folders or FTP) I'd like to be able to sort the files by file type (file extension) as well as alphabetical by first letter, which is the default (and seemingly only) option just now.

So, for example, the current option allows for a listing such as:

404.php
archive.php
comments.php
header.php
index.html
print.css
search.php
style.css

Sorting by file type would display files in the order:

print.css
style.css
index.html
404.php
archive.php
comments.php
header.php
search.php

So, grouping all like-file types together and arranging the files alphabetically within that file type, similar to what Windows Explorer does with "Arrange icons by > Type".

This would be MOST helpful as I often work with groups of similar files at once, eg CSS files or PHP files, and I've noticed that I often think while looking for the file, "Right, it's a CSS file..." rather than it's called "style.css" -- so my first thought is type rather than first letter of the filename.

I hope that all makes sense, and is possible to implement in a future version. Other than that I cannot complain about WeBuilder -- it's an excellent application.
