Vote for useless features
We have loads of feature requests. In order to maintain speed and keep our editors clean it would be a good idea to remove any features/options that *nobody* really uses.

not suggesting any of this stuff is useless but it's all stuff I never seem to use:
'highlight urls'
'preview' ;0
'spell check'
'show invisible characters'
'object browser'
'markup browser'
'inspector'
all the html insert stuff (table, form, <hr>, frames, nbsp...)
all the css insert stuff (font, bold, italic, center, @import...)
'publish to FTP'
'send by mail' (hmm, html newsletters?)
'stylesheet wizard'
'manage layouts' I just have a full layout and use f4 to hide everything when I need the room
again, not suggesting these aren't useful to people - just what I don't use.

syrupcore I can understand and agree with most of what you said but are you telling me you don't spellcheck the websites you make ?????
Everyone makes mistakes typing out content. How are you getting away with not checking it ? Nothing looks worse than a spelling error on a commercial website.

funny, just yesterday (after I posted that) some one asked me to correct 'healthcar'.
Generally though, I'm sorta particular about spelling on the way in.
Most of my days, I'm taking content some one else has prepared and inserting it into html docs. They own the content and have, presumably, taken care of checking its spelling. I also do a lot (mostly) of cms development - I never even touch the content. We develop sites for people to populate their own content.
All that said, I'm sure spell check is a might handy feature for lots of people. I think it would be hard for any one here to call any single feature 'useless'. Instead, I thought it would be better to simply list the features we don't use and let Karlis then decide what might be considered 'useless' or perhaps 'far less useful'.

I 100% agree with you. I **always** have WeBuilder set to spell-check automatically and would hate it if this feature was removed. Instead, I want to see an improved auto spell-check which ignores HTML tags (it currently underlines most tags in the colour red as spelling mistakes if commented out!). I wish it would either a) include all HTML tags already in the spell checker or b) don't spell check text that is commented out.ricktu wrote:syrupcore I can understand and agree with most of what you said but are you telling me you don't spellcheck the websites you make ?????

b) is more preferable to me.
Well as for myself I have never used either of them.Karlis wrote:Ok, these two seem pretty non-popular for me too, who else agrees?

First, do not remove "Upload to FTP" or "spellcheck". Especially spellcheck.
Do remove...
'highlight urls'
'show invisible characters'
'object browser'
'markup browser'
'send by mail'
'html page wizard'
'stylesheet wizard'
'manage layouts'
'insert color' - or make it better by allowing picking colors from a much larger palette

i use the "all the html insert stuff (table, form, <hr>, frames, nbsp...) " quite a bit...when i don't feel like typing forms or forget all the syntax - same goes for tables...it's nice to have a dialog that asks what you want and doesn't bloat the code.
i don't use very often but i think that there is value in having the object browser and the markup browser.
i use spell check
i love the idea of having a preview...but i've never used an editor with a preview pane and had it actually work right. there's always little nuances that screw the render up- when it's not screwed up. so i've always just used a browser...i won't miss the preview feature. (although- it is nice to have a preview of css documents - i like the way it helps me visualize the various elements without content or layout...)

I can't agree
Actualy I don't use those features, but that's not a point of software to remove something that was there before for a long time. Actualy for newbies thease "Object Browser" and "Markup Browser" features could be best-thing-ever. Well only if it makes performance isues - only then do remove
As for me I don't use menus:
HTML,
CSS,
PHP (except for "Syntax Check"),
Format HTML
And I have also removed all the Tollbars (more coding area)
