Shutdown question
Hi. I have HTMLPad Pro 2004. I am considering upgrading to 2006 but first have a question. In 2004 when I shutdown Windows XP, it always stops the shutdown process if HTMLPad Pro 2004 is running. If I quit 2004 first, shutdown proceeds normally.
My question is whether this issue has been fixed in the 2006 version.
Thanks!

I couldn't tell with your reply whether you are talking about the 2004 or 2006 version. With the 2004 Pro version, I can start HTMLPad, have no files open, attempt to shutdown XP, and it will stop the shutdown. It doesn't matter whether I have unsaved files or not - the behavior is always the same Are you saying this behavior has been fixed with 2006?
I know that other programs (MS Word, for example) will shut down gracefully if there are no changed documents, or they will prompt to ask if changes need to be saved. This standard behavior is what I am hoping HTMLPad Pro 2006 accomplishes, and I'd like to confirm before I upgrade.
Your product is great otherwise. This one thing, though, is a pet peeve of mine - kinda like fingernails scratching across a chalkboard. It may not bother the majority of your users, but it's a frequent irritation to me. So I'm willing to pay for an upgrade solely to alleviate this irritation - because the 2004 product fulfills my needs otherwise. If the problem isn't fixed, then there is no need for me to upgrade.
Thanks again for your reply!

Its just a nice lazy feature when you've oodles of applications open to just close Windows. You shouldn't have to close each application before closing Windows.
When I want to go home, I just want to shut the machine down and go - not have to start closing every application down manually.
As I said - just lazyness!

This is exactly my feeling. I have oodles of programs open, and HTMLPad Pro is the only piece of software that doesn't behave in the standard way when Windows is shut down. All of the MS products do it correctly. Adobe Acrobat does too. So does FireFox and Opera. Quicken. TaxCut. WordPerfect Suite. Paint Shop. Tax Cut. FileZilla. They, and many others, all do it correctly.chrisjlocke wrote:Its just a nice lazy feature when you've oodles of applications open to just close Windows. Like Chris said, I just want to close Windows and go home...
So it appears that the 2006 version doesn't work correctly either. Thanks all for helping me figure this out before upgrading. Now I'm gonna have to spend time finding an alternative HTML editor (unfortunately).

Not necessarily. There may be an easy explanation, and something thats easily solved. The 2007 version is still in beta.brow416 wrote:So it appears that the 2006 version doesn't work correctly either. Thanks all for helping me figure this out before upgrading. OK, I'll wait a little while to see if it's fixed. Please reply to this post when it's done, even if in the 2007 version. I really like the product and don't want to waste time looking for an alternative if I don't have to.chrisjlocke wrote:There may be an easy explanation, and something thats easily solved.
