Snippet enhancement

Post by charlesroper »

A feature I love in TextMate is its enhanced snippets, and also in jEdit with the SuperAbbrevs plugin. Essentially, this feature is like WeBuilder's snippets only you type an abbreviation and have it expanded (which is like Auto Replace, I know, but bear with me for a moment). You then have replacement-token-like functionality but instead of modal dialogs, you access the placeholder tokens by tabbing.

In fact, have a look at all the cool snippet functionality in TextMate:

There's a reason it's become so wildly popular on the Mac :)

Also, have a look at this tutorial for the SuperAbbrevs pluging for jEdit, as it gives a good insight into this hugely powerful feature. It's like all the best bits from snippets with replacement tokens and Auto Replace all in one.

There's a nice screencast of jEdit's SuperAbbrevs plugin in action here:

Check it out. This would be so incredibly useful in WeBuilder.

Add +1 vote for me on this. Edit-Plus has this feature and I use it constantly.
