How to Preview actual files and not prev~.htm?

Post by simmerin »

Dreamweaver and other editors offer the option to preview actual files verses generated preview files. This is very useful since actual files like index.cfm or index.html will show CSS updates by refreshing the browser prev~.htm will not show updates unless a new preview file is generated. Am I missing something or does this program not have this feature?

I purchased Webuilder 2007 without first checking for this option. Oooops

if you hit preview while editing a css file, you will get the prev~.htm because how could webuilder know what to display the css file with?

however, if you're working on a .cfm/.html file and an associated css file, hitting preview with the .cfm/.html focused will display that page with your updated css.

my workflow:
open html page in the browser
edit css
save css
alt tab to browser and hit f5 to refresh html and associated css.

simple enough. :)

makes perfect sense

I see that previewing cfm/html pages brings up the actual page in the browser and not a temp file which is what I need to occur. Your comment on the preview file as relates to editing CSS makes perfect sense. thanks

If you hit save before previewing, it will use the original file.
