Inputting unicode:?:

Post by LeeInEngland »

How do I get unicode input to work?
I want to use global IME for Chinese and Japanese.
I'm learning both languages, so it would be a useful tool.
I don't see any menus or unicode text editors in Rapid PHP 2006. Does it really support unicode input?

When I submit the words out of the IME, I see ??????? instead of the characters I'm expecting.
The IME works with other unicode supported software I have. My old free editor and my Serif software have full unicode support as I expected Rapid PHP 2006 to.

A main reason for buying was because it supports unicode.

Please assist me.

Thank you,

Lee.

It's on the XP CD

Hello Karlis,

As I understand the IME exists on the WindowsXP CD.
You have to add new languages from the control panel. Its in the regional settings/locale. It should ask for the CD. to install them.

WE2006: Unicode - Cut & Paste works but not IME

Post by Ninja »

Hello, Karlis.

Since hardly any Western web editor supports UNICODE/UTF-8 I read with interest that WE2006 should do so. And, when it comes to cut & paste, it seems to be true. I had only to change the editor settings to a different font (Lucida Console 9 pt on my PC) since with the default Courier font Japanese characters are shown overlaid. And when it came to saving I had to pay attention to save the file encoded as UTF-8. So I can confirm that WE2006 supports UTF-8, indeed. :D

However, when it comes to IME I have to underline the observations from Lee: All you get are a lot of questions marks. :(

Information about IME can be found at Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_method_editor

It would make life easier, if I had not to use external editors like JWP to write Japanese but to use IME in WE200x directly.

Would be great, if you could enhance once WE by this feature.

Global IME for input of unicode

Post by uj63 »

Hello Karlis,

first of all thanks for your great work. I looked around for a good web editor and I think webuilder would fit my requirements if it has the capability to use Global IME for the input of unicode characters (I need Chinese).

The copy&paste method from another editor is not really useful :(

Are there any plans to implement this feature? And maybe already an idea about the time?

Have a nice day,

Uwe

At the present time there is no progress, because this is a low priority task, but we shall try to do something about this as time permits.
