Use custom icon results in uncompressed scr

Post by Scorpius »

I just tested and discovered that if you use a custom icon in the "Special" section the scr is not packed.

Yes, this is on purpose. Due to some Windows or packer bug, packed screensavers with custom icons sometimes crashed, so we decided not to pack custom-icon savers to ensure their perfect operation.

The cost is not so big, I'd say several hundreds of KBs only.

Thanks for that information. The difference on a 10Mb Scr is about 1Mb

I hope you don't mind the pointing out of possible bugs when found.

Also, I did some checking with other screen saver packages, and they all use IE to launch a URL from within the scr.

Thanks for taking the time to address these (non)issues.

I have the latest update of the SSF, and when I use a custom icon (I tried display_old.ico), the .scr file I generate won't run or customize.

Can anyone else try it out and see if they get the same?

It's not a big deal whatsoever to me, but it is something that you may want to test and resolve if you have the same results as I did.

Thanks!

There was a problem, but we released an update 3 days later (version number did not change, so you must re-download and re-install the same version).
