file tabs enhancement

Post by simmerin »

When working with many files it would be nice to have an option for stacking the tabs instead of having those that don't fit out of view. Also, having the active tab highlighted would nice.

Thanks,

For stacking you mean another row?

Yes, another row. It would be much quicker and more efficient when working with a large number of files.

Instead of another row, I would prefer a drop-down list of tabs displayed at the right-end with a right-arrow on the right-end and a left-arrow on the left -end. Kind of like how tabs are displayed in FireFox.

Multiple tab rows start using up my precious screen real-estate.

I agree with the active-tab highlighting. But to be more specific, it would be nice to have "better" active-tab highlighting, as in a different color and/or bolding. There currently is active-tab highlighting, but it is not very noticeable (ie. selected-button-effect)

I am kind of against stacking tabs in two lines, because this is against proper interface guidelines, so can suggest to click Windows menu (requires single click and it is now fast - in old days it was slow and annoying, I do remember) for a full list of open docs or right-click and tab and pick Activate to see the list of tabs.

Here is Notetab Pro's tab highlighting with custom colors. The red mark denotes tabs that haven't been saved. I find this approach to tabs highly usable.
