WeBuilder: Backup and synchronization: FTP vs. local files?

Post by Himbeersoft »

Hi all!

How come that backups are only generated when opening and saving local files?
Also, the only way to get a backup of the recently edited file AND synchonize it on the FTP server as well is when opening a local file and then choose 'Save and Upload File to FTP' from within the 'Project' menu - is that correct?

I would expect that WeBuilder creates the backup file in any case, even I opened the file from the FTP explorer. Also, when originally teh file was opened from FTP and then saved (with control-S) it should create the local file as well to keep the offline files in sync.
Or do I miss something?
Please suggest a solution.
Thank you.

Backups are created for local files only. We are not planning to change this. If you are serious about direct-ftp editing and do not edit site by changing a local copy first, you should really do regular site backups. Because even if there was a backup feature for remote files (which is pretty difficult to implement without slowing things down), it would not save you if you accidentally delete a file or something else like that happens.
