Despite the auto completion wizard, I still find that the most efficient way to enter a variable name is to copy and paste it.
It really is annoying and requires a huge* amount of extra time and effort to select a $variable because I can not double click on it and must instead do a drag select which is a lot more effort than double click.
Please tell double click to also include the $. unlike your comments about dash select, I can't think of any likely scenarios in which you would not want the dollar sign to also be selected.
-------
* a little bit of effort multiplied by the thousands of times that I do this == a huge effort.

Re: Selecting $ variable names
We already discussed this a while ago and most of us agreed (including Karlis) this is intended and practical behavior that would remain in future releases.

Re: Selecting $ variable names
Actually, it was more of a programming challenge.
I agree though - a double click to include the $ sign would be handy.
