Upgrading while keeping preferences

Post by midipixel »

Hey everyone. IĀ´m trying to download the latest HTMLPad release and IĀ´ve noticed thereĀ´s no automatic upgrade procedure. What should I do? Just install the newer version over the earlier? Will any preferences be lost?

Thanks in advance.

Howdy

It has been a while since I last used HTMLPad but in WeBuiler there is a 'Layout' tool that allows us to save our own quirky layouts. This is because every new install resets everything (except library entries and other user-added snippets and things) to default. When I upgrade, I just install over the top of the old one (making sure the installer points to the right path) and when I run it for the first time, re-select my saved 'Layout' and that's it, back to my normal familiar interface.

There is no upgrade feature with WeBuilder; just a 'check for new version' and, when downloaded, during installation, the choice of where to install it. Hopefully it works the same way with HTMLPad, though if it isn't exactly the same, I would be surprised if it overwrites anything you have created within the software.

Thanks Dave. I also noticed a Tools/Export Settings option at the menu.
