Customized Label on Tabs for files opened via (S)FTP

Post by EvilBMP »

Hi,

I often have problems, dealing with files from a live server environment and a dev server environment. The dev system obviously is a mirror of the live system, where new stuff will be tested first. If I now open files via (S)FTP, I always have the label "FTP::my_opened_file.php"! So you have no clue, what file is the current file until you hover the tab to see the path...

In my opinion it would be really nice to have an optional input field in the FTP Site Connection Settings - e.g. named "Tab Prefix Label". If set, this label would be the new prefix for opened tabs via (S)FTP. For example this could result in "XYZ-DEV::my_opened_file.php". So you would have the possibility to label all your site connections by a specific tab prefix. No stress anymore 8)

For me this would be a real nice and important feature. How about the others around here?

cool idea. I wonder if it would be easier/cleaner to just prefix the file with the name of the ftp connection? That could be a global change and not require yet another setting to be tracked.

Well I really thought about that too, BUT ;) in my case the names of the ftp connections are often the names of the sitehosts - sometimes with another postfix, if there is more than one connection per host necessary or available. So this would make the tabs quite long ... too long in my opinion.

That's why I came up with the idea of prefixes ... because many hosts (or let me say projects) can be shortened with an abbrevation, which could be used as tab prefix.

Maybe you will ask, why I don't want to use those abbrevations for the names of the ftp connections?! Obviously I'm afraid, that I will forget the hostname/ site url after some time ... and I just want to keep my brain clean for stuff that's important to remember... ;)

Nevertheless, thanks for your reply - I really thought I am the only one, who maybe would take benefits from that feature :) Ah, and sorry for my late reply ... missed the notify feature.
