is there a custom highlighter for WB2008 that caters for Python, or some information about how to construct one?

The instructions to modify highlighters will be included in the help file of WeBuilder 2010.
With some tricks you might be able to even get Python documents recognized (by replacing say Perl document type with Pyton).
