WeBuilder 2010: FTPing, projects and folder structures

Post by DrGarry »

Hi All:

I'm on the verge of moving from my old HomeSite to WeBuilder, and am evaluating WeBuilder. There are some behaviours/features in HomeSite I hope I can replicate in WB. To wit:

1. FTPing. In HomeSite, when I FTP a file with a simple "Deploy File" right-click, it places the file in the correct directory on my website, derived from its location in my project directory structure. The behaviour in WB seems to be that I have to manually choose the location of the downloaded file on my site each time, whether I choose Save or Publish. Is there a simple one-click "Download" ability in WB?

2. Project structure. In HomeSite I can nominate a root project folder, but then specify subfolders I want to include or exclude as part of the project. Example: I'm fiddling with Wordpress, and my wordpress files are in a folder under my project root. But I don't want these files to be part of my WB project. Can I exclude them somehow?

Many thanks for your time.

Hi Garry

I use the right-click 'upload to FTP' context menu when in project file explorer view to do what you are wanting to do. It locates the right paths and structure depending on the local project's structure so you can choose that option on any file in the project and it will end up in the right remote folder. Of course, you must have the correct FTP settings for it to work (correct root folder designated etc.) but if that is all good, then after editing the file you want, in the project file explorer just do the right-click, upload to ftp thing and it logs on, uploads, (gives you an overwrite prompt if relevant) and logs off again all by itself, I use this constantly when tidying up small site errors. Bear in mind that for better for for worse the right-click menus are not standard Windows controls and menus so they often contain many features not found elsewhere in the application, so make sure you have a good look around at right-click menus in the different views.

As for the second part of your question, you'll be able to exclude folders in WB 2011, which is in beta testing now, though not specifically include by the looks. It is still worth buying 2010 (if that is what you want of course) because you'll likely get 2011 free if that version is released within 'X' amount of time after your 2010 purchase. You may want to have Gatis or Karlis confirm this before you jump in, just in case I'm full of hot air!

I hope this answers your questions sufficiently.

Hi,

Thank you Dave for explaining.
And yes, version 2011 is very close now. Everybody who buys now, for sure will receive a free upgrade to version 2011.

Gatis
