an annoying problem/bug

Post by ajmaske »

I'm using both Windows XP (all service packs) and Windows 7 64bit (also all service packs) and of course WeBuilder v11.22.2.131

1) when I drag a file from WinZip (v15.5.9468) and drop it into the WeBuilder editor the file loads however, I get the following from WeBuilder "File ... could not be opened." yet the file is opened and clearing the message all appears to be fine ... Dragging and dropping from a regular windows folder does not do this, appears to only happen when dragging from WinZip ...

2) when tips/hints or other popups appear inside the editor most of the time (not always) the popup, tip, or hint appears over the cursor line where I can no longer see what I'm typing. I end up having to hit ESCape to clear it and then resume typing... frustrating ... I thought I saw this mentioned some where here but couldn't find anything ...

I'm surprised WeBuilder opens a file dragged from WinZip at all, I wouldn't recommend doing it myself.

I think that when you drag a file from WinZip it 1st temporarily un-zips it in your Windows temp directory, and then will move it to the folder you wanted.
I would guess the problem comes when WeBuilder opens the file in the temp directory, that WinZip then tries to move it somewhere (but where?) and deletes the temporary file, WeBuilder then can't see the original temp file.

I don't have WinZip here, only 7-Zip, and when I drag a file from a zip, WeBuilder just says "File xxx.asp could not be opened" and no file is opened, which is what I'd expect to happen to be honest, as there is no real file, where would 7-Zip un-zip it to?
Maybe 7-Zip is deleting the temp file quicker than WinZip does, or just does it differently.

If I try and drag a file from the zip opened in Windows Explorer then WeBuilder doesn't even attempt to open it, the mouse pointer changes to the "no entry" icon.

If I have files zipped up, I always un-zip it 1st.

Dragging and dropping into WB works OK with WinRAR on my Windows 7 box; as Mike says, all unzipped/unrar'ed files are stored in their own temp directories - not many programs are coded to work with dragging a file directly from an archiver to work on it simply because you are working on a temporary file and it may or may not be resaved to the archive on either software's exit. Better to extract first to your own working folder, then add it to the archive afterwards. I don't consider this a bug as such.

I understand ... with WeBuilder as my editor it is always opened so when I download code and want to examine it with out actually extracting the zip file well there you go... just gets a little annoying...

Unzipping it first before dragging should be the trick here. I don't think this can be considered as a bug.

yes, I agree about the winzip issue ... :D

however, the tip and other popups from within the editor covering the cursor is another issue ...
