How to lock file when editting

Post by martin86 »

I use Rapid PHP 2010, a co-worker uses Dreamweaver, another uses notepad to edit html files. Does anyone know of a way to lock the file so multiple users can not edit at the same time? The files are on a Linux machine using samba to access them.

Thanks,

There would be no way, apart from editing the file permissions.
Even if RapidPHP could 'lock' the file by putting an additional .lock file in the same directory, Notepad wouldn't understand (or even care) what that .lock file was, so would ignore it.

There is no standard locking procedure amongst different software applications.
