Cannot open clipboard - WeBuilder 2006 v7.1.0.67

Post by Seth »

I get the message "Cannot open clipboard" when I am running remote desktop. I don't always get the message .. if I keep trying, after 4 or 5 tries I can use the clipboard. When I go to use the clipboard later I get the message again.

I am running XP Professional - and the version of Remote Desktop Software that comes with it.

I am often connected to other servers over remote desktop. I can live with this bug, but I figured I'd bring it to your attention.

Sounds like the same bug mentioned in this thread:
http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic.php?t=1125

I know its a different program, but I believe it uses the same 'engine'. If so, then it may be fixed in the next release.

I am currently evaluating this software with the intention of purchasing it. However, I am also having this problem, which makes the editor unusable after a period of time!

I am using version 7.2.0.68 - I assume you meant 7.2 when you said a fix was coming in the "next update"?

7.2.0.68 is the latest version, so you're right on the cutting edge of versionness.

What OS are you using? What other programs are running? (eg, some sort of clipboard manager - Microsoft Office or something?)
Does it always do it, or only occasionally?

Even if I have no other programs open at the time, the problem is still there. It is intermittent and only occurs every now and then, but enough times to be annoying (2 or 3 times a day).

I don't use any clipboard managers etc.

I don't know if this is relevent or not, but Chris's mention of Office made me think..

On my machine, I have noticed (mainly within an Office program) that there is a multi-item clipboard facility. If this is not standard with Win XP, then it is added by MS Office.

I've kept mine up to date with the online update, but I can well imagine the original install having bugs, the first (office) update from a clean install is about 50MB.

If the people experiencing this problem have MS Office installed and have not updated it, I suggest trying an update and see if this fixes the clipboard.

Just run any Office program (e.g. Word) then got to the Help menu & 'check for updates'.
If you have an older version of Office, you may need to go to the MS Office web site and see if there is a service pack you can download.

Hope this helps,

Yup, its part of Office - normally Office 2000 and above. I don't believe it was part of '97.

Do you use terminal server connection?

Are there any other programs running at the time when error happens?

Is your product WeBuilder or another edition?

Sometimes - although problem shows up even when on my local machine.

Firefox perhaps, nothing else usually.

Thanks Karlis. I've gone ahead and bought the software anyway, it really is an excellent application :)
